mugi dance: contemporer dance

 The Rumours (Kabar kabur )

 Choreographer : Mugiyono Kasido
 Duration : 15 minutes
 People on tour

 : 2 people

Choreographer’s note:    "Kabar Kabur" is the result of observing Indonesian society. The inspiration or the work comes from the social chaos in Indonesia, post May 1998 particularly. Social economics, the political situation, everything runs disorderly, upside down. Nothing to seem fit. All things sound like rumours: conflicting, vague and dubious, which makes it obviously hard to understand what is really going on. That leads to incomprehension, false interpretations and troubles.   I see an analogue between society and the body. In both each part has its own place and function and it is crucial that they work together in harmony.

"Dressed only in a white T Shirt khaki shorts, Mugiyono stages his performance on a miniscale stage no larger than a table. His initially simple gestures slowly becomes transformed twisted and knotted as he fights agains his own body in his T Shirt in a struggle symbolising the turnmoil permeating Indonesia's complex reality" (www.in-transit.de, 2004)

From the soul of the sun (Bagaspati)

Choreographer / dancer                        : Mugiyono Kasido
 Duration : 24 minutes
 People on tour
: 5 people (LIVE), 2 people (CD ver)
 Lighting Designer
 : Iskandar K Loedin

Choreographer's notes: The idea of Bagaspati ( a Javanese word of “the sun) comes from my daily encounter with the sun. In my hometown, the sun rises every morning to make the day for us. With its lovely red radiance, the sun rises in the east to give life to all creatures. When we are tired after the whole day work and need to enjoy the night, the sun creeps behind the moon.
The sun is the soul of life. Green leaves proudly greet the world, cocks crow in the morning; sweet rain drops from heaven…and for certain, the sun has given us pause for reflection and valuable lessons on the meaning of honesty, intensity, persistence, without knowing or having any pretensions about when it must be stopped.

"He employs slow, graceful movements and traditional mask dance to create a mystical atmosphere, gradually yet irresibily drawing the audience under it's spell" (www.in-transit.de,2004)

Choreographer's note :  Mencari Mata Candi means looking for temple eyes. I create a solo from traditional base-reliefs of the Prambanan Temple, one of the most beautiful "Sculpture books" of the Hindu art dedicated to Shiva. I believe these petrified figures are lying dormant, awaiting a new interpretation. On stage I converse with my traditions -a musical gamelan and shadow theatre feature

" A true virtuoso, Mugiyono inject the vitality of modern dance into an ancient art and succeed, infusing a hundred year old ritual with the fierce glow of new life" (www.festivalgoteborg.se,Tue, 24/8, 2003)
